Fast “Facts”, a Christian Debating iPhone App – Part 3

21 Sep

Welcome to the third installment in what is sure to be a lengthy response to the claims and arguments made in the popular Christian iPhone app for debaters and apologists, called Fast Facts.

In the first two parts, as well as this one, I will be tackling the section of the app under the “Challenges and Tactics” category. There are so many counter-arguments to supposedly popular claims and challenges, and so much to say about most of them, that it will take quite a while to poke at all of them.

It might be prudent at this juncture to inform readers that I have been skipping many of the challenges, because they aren’t worth talking about, or because the challenge itself is a weak one that atheists shouldn’t even be issuing, or for any number of reasons. Some of these include “There is no truth,” “Who are you to say?” and “Christians are hypocritical and judgmental.” There are many reasons why I haven’t looked at these, the most important of which is that atheists should avoid getting into the muck in which they’ll find themselves when they start making these arguments.

With no further ado, let’s jump right in!

Atheism Vs. Agnosticism

20 Sep

I know, I know. The title is a bit misleading.

But lately, I’ve been seeing a growing trend of digging an imaginary trench between so-called atheists and so-called agnostics. What many people don’t realize is that more often than not, they are one and the same.

What We Need to Remember on 9/11

11 Sep

Today is September 11th, which is time to remember and to reflect — not only on what happened that fateful day when extremists twisted the ideals of Islam to their own vengeful purpose — but on how the entire country came together as one shortly thereafter.

My Response to ShockOfGod’s Question

16 Aug

Some time ago, popular YouTube Bible-thumper shockofgod posed a question to atheists: “What proof and evidence can you provide that proves atheism is correct and accurate?” Of course, the question itself is meaningless, as it assumes a straw man argument: that atheists somehow make the assertion that no god exists. While that’s not even what atheism is, I still felt it necessary to respond to his nonsense.

Fast “Facts”, a Christian Debating iPhone App – Part 2

02 Aug

Welcome to the second installment of my responses to many of the arguments in the Christian debating iPhone App called “Fast Facts” (more like “Rushed Assumptions” or “Hasty Babbling”). You can find Part 1 of my discussion here.

In Part 1, I’ve listed several challenges that Christians receive, and the weak, meaningless babble that they’re supposed to spout in response to them. Then I picked apart those responses and tore it to shreds.

Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Pharyngula, PZ Myers, and Being a Dick

31 Jul

I have to say something. I just have to.

PZ Myers recently blogged about the now-infamous Girls Gone Wild case, and went off on the creators of GGW, as well as the judge who ruled that there was “implied consent” in the forceful stripping of the girl in question — and rightfully so. I shouldn’t have to go into detail about why this is absolutely, horribly wrong…but what I do disagree with is PZ Myers’ attitude toward his potential future (at the time) commenters, some of whom were bound to say something in defense of Girls Gone Wild.

Fast “Facts”, a Christian Debating iPhone App – Part 1

30 Jul

I’m sure by now most of you have heard of the Atheist Debater iPhone app, or other similar apps that are an invaluable tool to many atheists who may find themselves in a debate, or want to plan ahead with some speaking points.

The reason why these sort of apps were created was because there were too many Christian “facts” apps, and no atheist ones.

In this discussion, I am going to look at many of the points made in the “Fast Facts” Christian app (which, yes, I bought), and respond to as many as I can.
